Torbjörn Näsbom

Torbjörn Näsbom grew up in Tierp in Uppland and at a young age was taught by his father to play the fiddle. Very early on, he met and played with some of the twentieth century’s greatest figures in Swedish folk music: Viksta-Lasse, from whom he learned so much of his folk music cultural heritage, Eric Sahlström and Sture Andersson in Åkerby.

At the 2014 national folk musician convention in Umeå, Torbjorn Näsbom was awarded the Zorn Gold Badge. This award is presented to particularly prominent bearers of tradition. The award was given for virtuoso, masterful and tradition-conscious playing of the fiddle and nyckelharpa. With this, Torbjörn received what is considered one of the most distinguished awards given to a Swedish musician.

Through his virtuosity and enthusiasm, he has raised folk music to the professional level and been able to perform Swedish folk music at venues throughout the world.
